unit3 are a distinctive studio based in Liverpool whose architects are committed to delivering unique, contemporary and sustainable design solutions for all our clients.
Established in July 2013 and recognised for its work in architecture, graphic design, urban realm, art and collaborative thinking; our studio strives to find innovative responses to the challenges that face society. We do this through a spirit of research, experimentation, curiosity and collaboration.
The studio believes in the honesty of keeping things simple alongside a passion for colour, graphics, form and materials. We aim to help others understand the value of design.
unit3 have completed a wide variety of architectural commissions across the UK, many in Liverpool and the North West. Our clients include retailers, property developers, charities and local businesses. Whatever the scale, all our projects demonstrate an interest in the craft of making and are uniquely tailored to suit their purpose.
Martin Shutt, Director
Martin is a RIBA Chartered Architect and a co-founder of unit3 design studio. He studied at Liverpool John Moores University and went on to gain full ARB accreditation in November 2007.
Martin is an award winning RIBA Architect knowledgeable in creative architectural design and project management with experience on contracts in excess of £21m across a broad range of sectors. After completing his studies, Martin went onto work for a local practice specialising in conservation and residential accommodation before moving on to a large international practice which specialised in public sector projects including schools and healthcare. His capabilities include Revit (BIM Lv.2), contract administration, project management and strives to develop and maintain strong working relationships with people – delivering projects on time and to budget, and achieving outstanding results for his clients. As well as coordinating the studio’s education outreach activities, Martin also teaches architectural design part-time at the University of Liverpool and is an active council member of the Liverpool Architectural Society. He has a strong passion for visual identity, graphics and art and believes in promoting architecture and design whenever possible; making it accessible to all.
Anthony Fogg, Director
Anthony is a RIBA Chartered Architect and a co-founder of unit3 design studio. He studied at the University of Liverpool and went on to gain full ARB accreditation in April 2008.
Following his studies Anthony worked for a Liverpool and Manchester based practice where he completed a broad range of innovative projects within a wide variety of work sectors. He has lead the design and delivery of a number of high profile projects throughout the two cities which include the £6.1m refurbishment of the Grade II Listed Old Royal Infirmary building in Liverpool and the renovation of the Urbis building in Manchester for the relocation of the National Football Museum.
Although Anthony enjoys the creative aspect of new build projects, his portfolio also demonstrates a strong emphasis towards the refurbishment and adaptation of existing buildings, particularly within the historic environment. He enjoys the challenges of adapting these buildings to accommodate modern functions whilst maintaining the historic integrity of the original building and its features.
His has experience of a variety of different procurement routes and an excellent understanding of the different roles required by a consultant within that structure. This knowledge and understanding allows him to work quickly and effectively within a design team, maximising the efficiency of project delivery for his clients.
